custom field with formula always empty (2007 + SP1)

Hello All,

I tried to create a custom field with indicators based on a formula such like:
[Finish variance] /[duration] ... but my field was empty.
After few tests; I created a custom field with formula: [finish variance].
In a view, I displayed Finish variance and my new custom field side by side
----the new custom field shows nothing while I have figures in the Finish
variance column.

I have tried to publish one the project but nothing changed.

Any ideas,
Thank you

Maybe your calculation mode is set to manual. Try forcing a calculation by
hitting F9

Hello,

Your suggestion relates to Project Pro but un doubts I checked ..calculation
is set on automatic.
Let me explain my problem.

My intent is to have a graphical indicator to be used in a view (named
tracking001) in the project center.
The graphical indicator will be as followed:
Green when [Finish variance]/[baseline duration]*100 is equal to 0
Yellow when [Finish variance]/[baseline duration]*100 is less or equal to 10
Red when [Finish variance]/[baseline duration]*100 is more than 10

I created a custom field with entity set on “project†(to be available in
the pick list when creating my view for the project center) and type “Numberâ€

I have introduce the formula has show aboved
And graphical indicators with criteria set for “Project Summaryâ€

And saved it.

In Project Center my view was empty.
So I thought my indicator settings were wrong so I set it to “Data†instead
of “graphical indicators†.... still empty

I then created a new custom field set on “project†and entity “number†with
formula [finish variance] and displayed this new field and the fnish variance
side by side in my project center view.....the new field was empty while
finish variance showed data.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help,

thank you Jonathan, you led me to the right direction.

My settings were on automatic calculation but nothing was currently occuring
when I was opening the project and publishing it.
So I manually forced calculation and it worked.
thank you.

Great news. I realized that I forgot to mention that even if you have
calculation mode set to automatic, sometimes you have to force a re-calc to
get the formulas to kick in. Looks like you figured that out though:)

Take care,
