Custom Fields - disappearing data

Project 2007 + SP2. We use custom fields a lot in our plans and have
started to experience strange behaviour in some of them. I can type
the text "Level 0" (without the quotes) into (say) Text 1. I can copy
this into other rows using the drag-down feature. However, if I try
and copy & paste from one row into another (same field) Project seems
to 'think' about it for a few seconds and then ALL the data in that
custom field (ie all rows) disappears. If I try 'Paste Special' it
offers 'Picture' or 'Text Data'. Using either option results in loss
of all data in the field. After the first time this happens, Project
seems much slower and less responsive. If I select all rows and
delete the 'contents' of the field (remembering that they appear
blank) Project seems to become more responsive again.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I used to have similar problems with 2007, but that was before service packs
applied.

Are your plans on server ?

Has your PC got recommended amount of memory ?

Hi - thanks for the reply. Yes, the plans are server based, but this
also happens when running offline with the file held locally (in a
folder, not in the cache) so I'm assuming it's a Project issue rather
than a Project Server issue. It's running on a Lenovo T43 with 1Gb
memory - so I don't think that's the problem.

I was aware that there were 'similar' issues in the past that were
resolved by a hotfix - I had assumed that this would have been rolled
into SP2 - maybe it's worth a check....
