custom fields for projects

Jaroslav Sadovski

Hello,

I know I can add custom fields for tasks and resources, but is there a way
to do the same for projects? Let's say, I want to specify project budget or
something like that. How do I do that, and how do I make this column appear
in the Web Access?

Thank you,
Jaroslav

I forgot to mention, I use Project Server 2002 and Project Pro 2002.

Jaroslav,

It's the same thing. When you add a custom field, it is added for all
tasks, which rolls up to the project level summary task. Budget
information is already built into MS Project. There is a view called
Earned Value that shows all of the budget information. If you want a
specific field to publish to the PWA, you have to select it in
Tools>Customize>Published Fields. Select the field you want in the
Available Fields section on the left and add it to the right side.
After that, you must republish all assignments for the new field to
show up in PWA.

Yes, it is possible to create custom enterprise project fields. To create a
custom budget field for the project, for example, you would need to complete
the following steps:

1. Open Microsoft Project 2002 and log into Project Server with
Administrator permissions
2. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global
3. Click Tools - Customize - Enterprise Fields
4. Select the "Project" option at the top of the dialog box
5. Click the "Type" drop-down list and select "Cost"
6. Select an enterprise Cost field
7. Click the Rename button, name the field something like "Target Budget"
and then click OK
8. If you want to require each project manager to enter a budget for the
project, select the "Make this a required field" option
9. Click OK
10. Save and close the Enteprise Global
11. Close Microsoft Project 2002 and ask all of your project managers to do
the same
12. Open Microsoft Project 2002, log into Project Server with project
manager permissions, and ask all of your PM's to do the same
13. Ask all of your project managers to open their current projects, then
click Project - Project Information, and to enter a target budget for their
project
14. Ask all of your project managers to save and publish their projects
again (Collaborate - Publish - All Information)

To actually see this target budget information in PWA, you will need to
either edit an existing Project Center view or create a new one, and add the
Target Budget field to the View. To create other types of custom enterprise
project fields, follow the above steps as a general outline of how to do it.
In the Customize Enterprise Fields dialog box, you will see lots of other
options, including the ability to create value lists and formulas. Hope
this helps.
