Custom Fields

Hi everyone,
I would like to do something but I am not sure if it is possible. I am still
using Project server 2003 but soon I will start using 2007 so if you have the
answer for 2007 and but not for 2003 please let me know anyway.
I would like to associate each resource to a manager independent of the
projects the resource is assign to. I thought that a possible solution would
be to create a customized Resource Enterprise Field, Outline Code with a
Lookup table with the names of the managers. It worked but I would like that
the manager to be one of the resource already in project server tables and
not an outside name table. One of the reasons is that I can retrieve
information like email adress and I can relate the resources to each other (I
could relate the external table by the name of the resource but it would lead
surely to many problems).

Is there any solution for my problem?

Thank you in advance!
Kind regards,
Elsa

Your approach is solid, except that you have to manually create the Lookup
Table names for this custom field. This is the same for both Project Server
2003 and 2007. Hope this helps.

Thank you Dale for your reply. I just wanted to use the table of resources
(the project table) as the lookup table but I guess I will have to wait for
the next Project Server version ;-) for now I will create my lookup table
manually.

Thanks!

I think that you should use different aproach,
Permissions to resources are based on RBS. RBS is in general
organization structure and each resources is assigned to same
position.

when you enter informations about RBS to project server , you will be
able create custom setuity categories which will be using informations
stored in RBS. For you can grant permission to all managars to see
project which are managed by people from his department.
