Custom Header with page numbers in Word 2003

I need to know how to make my page numbers in my header customizable...

example:
instead of having "page 1", "page 2" I would like something like
"Lastname 1, lastname 2, etc....

anyone know the quick and easy way to do this?

View, Header footer, type in the "Lastname, click on "page number" icon
to insert the page number.
