Custom Number Format

I was wondeing if anyone could tell me why I get an error when I try to
preceed my leading zeros format with the letters AB. I type in AB0000 in my
custom format and Excel XP throws an error. I can type AC0000, AD0000,
FT000, etc... Does anyone know why this is?
