Custom paper size for DesignJet 800 42" plotter w/Visio 2003 for A

I have a few questions about working with custom paper sizes as well as page
orientation. The printer is accessed over the LAN.

First, if I go into the printer properties and change "Custom 1" to be
42"x24":

Open Printers and Faxes
Right click on DJ 800
Advanced tab
Printing Defaults button
Paper/Quality tab
Custom button
Set custom paper size to 42 (width) and 24 (length)
OK button

I now see "Size is:" Custom 1: 42 x 24 in.

OK button to close printing defaults
OK button to close properties

Now I open Visio

File/New drawing
File/Page Setup
Print Setup tab

First off, Custom 1 is still 8.5 x 11.

Setup button
Look in Size: list box, Custom 1 is still 8.5 x 11

Printer... button
Properties button on Print Setup dialog
Custom 1 was reset to 8.5 x 11!

Custom button
Reset Custom 1 as 42 and 24
OK button
Now I see Custom 1 saying 42 x 24 in - but why does the "Size is:" under the
thumbnail of the page show 24 x 42? It looks like the driver doesn't
understand that the page width is larger than the page length (is this an HP
issue?).
OK button
See in Print Setup that Size: is set to "Custom 1: 42 x 24 in." (yay!)
OK button to exit Print Setup
Page Setup tab, Printer paper is still "Custom 1: 8.5 x 11 in." (boo!)

I tried going to Printers and Faxes, selecting the printer, opening Server
properties and defining a custom form and using that, but still no go.

Why is this so difficult? What in the world do I have to do to get the
DesignJet 800 to print at 42"W x 24"H from Office Visio 2003 for Architects
on Windows XP SP2?

Note that I went to Windows Update and all of Office 2003 and XP are fully
up to date on patches.

Thanks,

Two weeks with no response. Does anyone (especially from the Microsoft side)
have an answer for this?

Thanks,

I found a workaround using print server forms that seems really whacked, but
functions. If it's not fixed so one can actually set custom paper sizes
properly from within Visio 2003, I'll look into the beta Visio 2007 to see if
it's working.

Tnx

Stan,
I too am frustrated by this problem. My company just got in a DesignJet
800 (42) last week, and now I am trying to print diagrams on the 42" width.
I have encountered the exact same issues as you mention below. In fact I
just posted the same question today. Hopefully someone will fix this!

My company has recently purchased HPDesignJet 2100 44" and I'm also trying to
print from Vision (2007) on 42" wide roll. I have had the same issues.
