Question : If a successor is set as complete before the predecessor, what
happens to the dates?
if Task1, Task2 & Task3 are to be executed in that sequence and I mark
Task2
as complete before Task1, what happens to the plan for Task1 and Task3?
Thanks for clarifying!

Custom reports MS Project
Hi there,
I have an question concerning reports (or views) at MS Project. I use that
SW as a capacity planener. So I need to create some custome reports (logo,
picture, own text, selected columns...). As I know at MS Acces it is no
issue. But what about MS Project.
When I did search at internet, I found 2 solutions:
1) Export to MS Excel selected data
2) Programm in VBA or a code
Are really only those 2 options? Do You have a tip how to create easilly
custom reports?
THX for support

Re: Custom reports MS Project
rothmanss,
Project is good at planning and managing a schedule but not so good at
supporting fully customized reports.
Although logos and pictures can be imported and pasted on a project view
or used in a header, doing so may tend to bloat the file and take away
from the real purpose of the application - managing schedule plans.
However if your focus is more on creating pretty pictures then yes, you
will have better luck by exporting project's base data to another, more
graphics friendly application.
Project 2007 expanded the export capability by adding the Visual Reports
functionality but it still takes some effort to format the exported data
into the exact report you want. In my opinion the best option for
creating custom reports is via VBA. It takes some effort to set it all
up but once the code is in place, creating the report(s) is basically a
one button operation.
Hope this helps.

John,Thank Your for your answer and confirmation what I already thought.
John,
Thank Your for your answer and confirmation what I already thought. I am
going to dwonload trial of Project 2007 and check those Visual reports.
Anyway, if those Visual Reports will be OK 4 Me, than I will have another
issue. How to convince our corporate IT to buy Project 2007 instead of
current 2000 :-( .
Anyway, thank You again for Your help.

Might work on the IT Dept: That version of Project was developed
primarily in the last century before the 1/1/2000. It probably has "Y2K
Bugs".

Rob,
Actually it does not. Project 2000 was a very good release. The only
update was SR-1 and once that was installed Project 2000 had far fewer
problems than later releases, at least in my opinion. The extra whistles
and bells that were added in later versions seemed to multiply the
issues that popped up, and still are popping up.
However, in order to maintain compatibility with other users, (e.g.
clients, customers, etc.), it is probably better to go with the most
current version.

David,
You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. Good luck with your "sales"
pitch to IT.

If I understood the original posting, I was thinking of how to help someone
If I understood the original posting, I was thinking of how to help
someone who had an IT dept who would prefer they get the the
"standard-but-hopelessly-out-of-date" version because that is what they
"support" vs. getting the "current" version to do great work. During
the late 1990's we learned that we could get anything from IT if it was
a Y2K issue.
(supposed to be a wee joke for old people who remember the last century)
All that being said, I agree Project has not really improved or changed
since the late 1990's and in some respects has gone backwards. I fear
Project 2010 will also probably have features removed.
