Custom Settings File For Office 2000

I have Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 and Windows XP Pro SP-2. All
software is genuine Microsoft.

For some mysterious reason Office Update keeps on crashing (after its
progress bar reaches 40%), so I have not applied any security patches/
service packs to Office 2000 in a while. (Windows Update, on the
other hand, works just fine.)

I have tried everything that is suggested in article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498
without success. I might just try to completely uninstall Office 2000
and then re-install it to see what happens.

Does Office 2000 have a file where custom settings are stored? I
would hate having to customize everything again, especially for
Outlook and Excel...

Thanks.

Most of your important settings should be saved if you uninstall and
re-install, but you can use this if you want to be sure:

That said, have you tried just repairing the installation?

Thanks for your reply, Mezzodiva.
Yes, I tried Help -> Detect and Repair... within each component of
Office 2000 and I tried the same process using the option on the
installation CD but I just have no luck with this issue.

Have you not 'updated' winupdate to msupdate which will provide both win &
updates for any other MS installed products, at one location?

It looks like msupdate only works with Office 2007. I have Office 2000...

No, MS update works for Office 2003, to the best of my recollection it works
/ worked on Office2k
