Custom size paper not printing as "print preview" displays it.

I have a Word document that is to be printed on 5.5W x 8.5L paper. Under Word's page setup/paper/paper size, I have "custom size" settings of 5.5 width and 8.5 length. Every time I print the document, it centers the document for 8.5 x 11 paper. I am currently using Office 2002 and have a Lexmark Z53 and an HP 7550. I experience the same problem regardless of the printer used. I've also gone into each printer's properties tab and changed the printer properties to a 5.5W x 8.5L paper size but that did not work either. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks, Steve White

If the printer won't cooperate, your only recourse is to set the paper size
to Letter and adjust the margins to print on the actual paper size.

I don't have a solution, but I do have a similar problem!
I have a custom size 5.5W x 4.25L that Word prints at the
bottom-center of 8.5 x 11 paper. I have the problem in
Word 2000 & Word 2002 on various HP printers. The only
common thread I have is that it started when I converted
to Windows XP. I did not experience the problem prior to
that. I have updated all printer drivers to most current
version as well and had also tried changing printer
properties as you mentioned below with no luck. I'm glad
to see I'm not alone with this problem, I thought I was
loosing my mind!

What if you have to send the document to another person?
I need to send my document to an outside printing
company. If I change my document to letter size and
manipulate the margins, the document is going to look a
lot different than I want the finished document to look.
Is this option just inviting confusion and possible
errors?

Thanks!

A commercial printer may prefer to have the document printed on a full sheet
(with crop marks), or you could create a PDF in the correct size.

Do you have any thought as to where the error is occurring? Is this an issue between Word and XP, XP and the print drivers? It sounds like a Microsoft issue because it does the same thing whether I use Lexmark's or HP's print drivers. What is extremely frustrating is the fact that Word displays it perfectly in print preview but can't deliver the end product. The fact that I despise workarounds is what has me asking more questions. Thanks very much Suzanne, I appreciate your advice. Abbarition.....it is good to know that we aren't losing our minds.......good luck with your issue
