Custom Text Field and Formula to get ProjectSummaryTask for Field

T

Trent Helms

I may be a little confused here so please help me out.

I have set a value in a the projectsummarytask for Text(6). I want to
copy this value down into all the other rows. Is there a formula that
I can use to set this value for all the all Text(6) rows?

Some background: I'm using a consolidated project file that contains
many subprojects. I've set the Text6 field in the projectsummary for
to a particular value so that I can filter the subprojects themselves.
The problem is that when I go to report on tasks within the
subprojects and need the Text6 value to be associated with all the
rows in the subprojects so that I can filter those as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Trent ,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Type in the text in the top cell. Highlight the cell and then click the
bottom right corner on the plus sign and drag downwind until all the cells
are selected.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on:)

Mike,

Thanks for the tip but I'm looking for a more query type lookup. For
example I want to report on all tasks of a particular name of all
subprojects within a consolidated file where the subproject level
property is of a certain value.

Another way of saying this is that I have one hundred projects to
manage. These can be categorized five different ways. I want to
report on a certain task or phase across all projects where the
category is specified.

I would really like to do this report within Project before having to
dump it out to a database to make this kind of query.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi Trent

Not really. As I see it, whatever categories you decide upon, you will have
to tell Project what they are and then fill the appropriate cells. You can
then filter on those categories.

Hi Trent,

You can customise an Enterprise Text Field (say Ent Text 6) and set the
formula to make it equal to your Enterprise Project Text 6 field. That way
the text fields will populate automatically with the value defined in the
Ent Text 6 field.

Hope that helps.
