Custom Workspace Template

Brian

Project Server 2007 migration
Small Farm
SQL 2005 64-bit

Customer created a custom template, went through the steps to promote to
Global Status, successful, and is listed in the drop down list in
Provisioning.

However, when a new project is published they receive a queue error
CreateWSSSiteFailed and no project workspace is created for the new project.

I can post the complete queue error, if needed.

Hi Brian, this is a known issue. Create your template from a new workspace
and you'll be okay - from
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms503640.aspx -
Do not use an existing project workspace site as the basis for a template
Because the template is already linked to a project, you will get an error
when trying to provision a new site for any other project - which is what you
are seeing. Expect this to be fixed, but in the mean time, use this
workaround.

Hi Gary,
By design, yes, by Microsoft's standard of by design, but in reality, I'm
sure they'd like it to work just as it did in 2003, where you can create a
WSS template from an existing 2003 site.

Thanks, Ben.

I think this is by design. The same held true in 2003. You must create a
fresh site outside of project.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to follow up with this. There is another workaround. Unlink the
site before creating a template (When creating a template (.STP) from a PWS,
ensure that the PWS URL has been removed from its linked project in Server
Settings --> Project Workspaces --> Edit site address

Hope that clears things up a little bit.
