There is no difference in where the field is before and after it is
customized.
Pulling values from custom fields takes a bit of work. I can't recite the
steps off the top of my head anymore, but the file called prjdb.htm or
projdb.htm which you can find on any computer with Project installed will
tell you what you need to know.
