Customize Outlook's preview pane

Is it possible? How can I make Outlook display (in
preview pane) some fields (that I add using a custom
form) and don't display some of the fileds that are
displayed in there by default? Is that pane (or the way
it present "stuff") [legally] customizable? Or do I need
to hack into it?

In the preview pane or the Explorer view? The preview pane isn't exposed to
the Outlook object model. Custom preview panes such as Chilton's are created
using Extended MAPI to completely replace the original preview pane and use
various undocumented things and Windows hooks.
