Customize the 404 File Not Found Page

H

Henry

I am running FP2003 on a Home XP and publishing a Web to an ISP using Apache.

I customized the /error/404-file-not-found.html file that was automatically created with the installation of my Web. Then I published it back to the server. Now it doesn't work. Upon an error condition the system ignores my new file and calls some standard page that we have all seen.

I thought that this would have been a straight farward edit and republish. My first concern is to get back to the original condition. Then I would like to know how to update the file.

Thanks, Henry.

The custom 404 page needs the smart html extension: .shtml rename it 404.shtml and republish.

Hi David,
I didn't check, but is your web hosted on Apache/Unix??
It may be an Apache /UNIX "version" issue, but mine need to be .shtml.!!
