Customized Shapes 2 questions.

Is there a way to make customized shapes and then import a picture into it so
it takes on the shape of the shape??? Sorry to be redundant with the word
shape.

You know how you can take an "autoshape" and then pick fill and upload a
picture into it??? I want to do that but I want to make funky shapes that
aren't in autoshape.

Question 2.....once you import the picture into the shape is there any way
to resize it so maybe only a portion of the picture shows though i.e. just a
face is visible in a circle. Or, do I have to resize the picture first, save
it as just the picture and then reimport it?

Thank You

You can make any shape you want in AutoShape using the options under the
"Line" tools - freeform, curve, scribble. Simply create any closed path
(join one end to the other when drawing it).

Alternatively, you can ungroup ClipArt to give other funky shapes that
might be hard to draw.

The latter. Well, resizing is easy, but cropping must be done
separately. I think.

I know that you can make any shape you want, I've done that. It doesn't
allow me to bring in a picture inside the shape. That is really what I'm
trying to do.

Thanks

Try the following steps...

Draw the shape and right click it...choose...
Format Autoshape / Colors and lines tab /
Fill / Color / open the drop window...choose...
Fill effects / Picture tab / Browse to your
picture / OK / OK

If the image is distorted after importing...
check the box "Lock picture aspect ratio" on
the "Picture" tab after selecting the picture.

No you cannot adjust the position of the
image once it is in the autoshape. Your
idea is correct to prepare it first before
importing.

If you need a specific detailed cutout...
I would suggest that MS Digital Image
Suite has a very good set of tools for that
purpose. You can download a 60 day trial
version at the following link:

Microsoft Digital Image
Starter Edition 2006

Once you have your cutout made and
saved in the correct format (.png, .tif, .gif...)
you can import it into Publisher and the
transparency will be retained.

Thanks for the reply. I tried this 2 ways, first slecting the lines to make
the unique shape and then did the "Format Autoshape / Colors and lines tab /
" but FILL is grayed. So then I locked all the lines together and tried to
do the same thing. Fill is still grayed out. UGH! I'm using 2003 would
that have something to do with it?????

Thanks for confirming my picture sizing too

Sorry, but the steps I posted is the
only method I'm familiar with and yes...
I'm also using Pub 2003.

Instead of locking, right-click the shape, click "edit points", click "close
path". When you fill an autoshape, the paths must be closed.
