I tried to add a button to easily insert a comment into a doc, but when I click the button the reviewing toolbar is shown automatically. I tried adding these two buttons "Insert Annotation" and "Insert New Comment", both behave the same. Can I keep the button from showing the reviewing toolbar?

Also, what is the difference between annotation and comment? Both just bring up the balloon.

Hi Claude -

The Reviewing toolbar is rigged to display any time you open a doc
containing tracked changes/comments or apply any of the reviewing features
(such as inserting a Comment) into a doc. There is no inboard control to
change the behavior but it may be addressable via Apple Script.

As to the buttons - look closely at the Insert New Comment button & you'll
notice the Triangle on its right edge. It's the same as the New Comment
button on the Reviewing toolbar & produces a list of Comment-related options
when you click the triangle - it just doesn't have the text label. The
Insert Annotation button - without the triangle - simply inserts a Comment.

Got it, thanks. I misunderstood the description under customize toolbars, Insert New Comment said (include menu) and I took that to mean the reviewing menu, not the dropdown menu.
