Customizing Toolbars

M

Marc

Hello,

I was customizing my forms toolbar and accidentally
removed/deleted one command (size to Tallest). How do I
get this back? I tried 'reset' and 'restore' in the
Customized menu but neither worked.
I'm in Access 2000 on a PC.

Thanks,

Marc

Hi, Marc.

get this back?

You can probably replace your current Format menu with the built-in one, but
just in case you have some other customizations on your menu, you can easily
replace just this one missing item.

Right-click on any command bar and select the "Customize ..." menu item from
the popup menu. Scroll down in the "Categories" list box until you reach
the "Built-in Menus" and select it. Scroll down the "Commands" list box
until you reach the "Format" menu. Drag this menu to your menu bar.

Now, in case you just want to replace the one missing item, select the new
Format menu -> Size. Press the <CTRL> key and select the "To Tallest"
submenu item and drag it to the old Format menu while still pressing the
<CTRL> key down. Navigate to the Format menu -> Size and drop this item
onto the submenu wherever you need it.

When done, drag whichever Format menu that you don't want to keep back to
the Customize dialog window to get rid of it. Close the Customize dialog
window.

HTH.

Hi Gunny,

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work. When I followed
your directions the new "format" menu also didn't include
the "To Tallest" option.

I guess I've really screwed this one up. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Marc

Hi again,

After my last post, I went back and tried again. This time
I selected "Modify - Reset" after I had dragged the new
format menu to the tool bar. That did the trick.

Thanks again.

Hi, Marc.

Good job! (What a relief, huh?)

Thanks for the heads up on these instructions. You mentioned that "Reset"
didn't work to restore the menu on your first post. At that time, were you
by chance selecting the "Reset" button on the Toolbars tab of the Customize
dialog window?

I have a feeling that to successfully reset the Format menu, you had it
selected first (from previously dragging it over to the Toolbar), then the
"Modify Selection" button on the Commands tab became enabled, and you
selected it. Then you selected the "Reset" command on the subsequent pop-up
menu to reset the Format menu.

Correct?

If so, then I think you did it the "easy" way, and I need to revise my
instructions!

Hi Gunny,

You're right in both your assumptions! Apparently, just
chosing Reset on the Toolbars tab doesn't work when you
screw up like I did. I just kind of stumbled on the other
option, searching the "Modify Selection" for anything that
would help.

Thanks again,

Marc

Hi, Marc.

You're welcome! Thanks for the feedback. I'll fix my set of instructions
for the next time someone steps in this same pothole.
