I have a bunch of data, organized by DMY, spanning many years. i want to perform some basic operations, e.g. getting the standard deviations for years. is there an easy way to do this without having to manually input the cell ranges? in other words, can i tell excel to pull the observations from a year, perform some operation, and record the results? even better would be a command to perform the operation for all the years simultaneously, but report separate results for each year.

thanks.

Hi,

Try a pivot table or you could try the Subtotal command, or you could try
AutoFilter with the SUBTOTAL functions.

And, since your needs are very specialized, there is no command to do
exactly what you want. You can probably do what you want with formulas but
you would need to show us a detailed layout of your data and what you expect
to get.
