Dale H's Reource View modification - How to Print?

D

Daryl

Dale and all,

The info below id from a response from Dale H regarding Resouce View (using
the Task View) I too have used this advice and thank Dale and all your
feedback!

One question though:

I modified this approach just a bit and used it to group by Resource Group
(Assignment) then Name (assignemnt) to get the same effect (i.e. to show how
many hours used by the resource group for the current project)...works great.

How can I report (i.e. print) on this data say for a two week period?

I can't seem seem to apply any grouping in any crosstab reports.? I also
can't seem to print the view for only two weeks either- do not know why? It
seems to go to the end of the page - the total seems to add up correctly
though? Strange.

Thanks for any feedback!

Apply the custom view, click File - Print, and in the Print dialog select
the date range you wish to print, and then print it. Hope this helps.

HI Dale,

Thanks, I did do that and it worked the first time I tried it - no problem,
it all fit on one page. Then I tried it for another date range, say a month,
then the data spanned two pages....but the printed data did not stop at my
end date, it kept going till the end of the page (it showed 6 weeks instead
of the 4 weeks I asked for). I added a summary column and it seemed to only
add the date range i used, but it displayed those 6 weeks in the time phased
data section. Even if I pick "fit to one page" option it still displays the
six weeks. It seems if i get tlucky and the first time it fits on one page
then it works, but if not I can never get it to work.

Any ideas? This is exactly the report I would like to use - if only I could
print it nicely.

Again - thanks.

The behavior you are seeing is the default behavior of Microsoft Project.
When you select a date range for printing, the software always fills out the
remainder of the last page with data. The best I can suggest to you is to
continue experimenting with printing the data. Hope this helps.

Thanks again Dale - appreciate your time.

I do not undestand the why the default behavior would be this way - I think
it is really a bug. They are providing a method for me to query by date, but
they do not always provide that date range. I do not understand why is would
default to filling the page, especially when picking a date range.

Does anyone know if there is some way to log this as a bug with Microsoft?
I think it would be a simple fix.
