Data Analysis: Filtering projects views according to the security

D

Daniel

Hello,
When using Data Analysis in PWA, it seems that the default behaviour is that
all projects can be viewed by all Project Managers. Is it possible to manage
the views in the same way there are managed in the Project Center? That is to
say, the PM are only able to view their own project. Using the administrator
rights, I tried to configure it this way, using the security groups and
categories but it always failed. Any suggestion?

Daniel, you will only achieve this with custom development. It is not
possible out of the box

Thanks Gary and Marc. It’s very annoying because the policy in my company is
that the PMs should only be able to view their own projects.
Marc, you’re talking about custom development, can you tell me more about
it?

The assumption is that people who have access to data analytics, need access
to everything. Right or wrong, that's how it is.

Hi Daniel,

if you check out the Project Server SDK ( Software Development Kit) you will
find some interesting approaches. In general you can develop an extention
that will automatically create security access to the cubes ( dimension based
security) based on user groups or even the RBS ( Resource Breakdown
Strucuture).

It is important that you write a good functional specification outlining the
rules you wish to integrate. Based on this you may be able to either develop
this inhouse or, and that is what I recommend, contact an EPM Partner with
the skills of developing this extention for you.

I hope this puts you into the right direction. Let me know if you have more
questions

Thanks Marc, it’s very clear for me. Now, I have to dig deeper in order to
find out which choice is the best one for our company.
