In Excel 2002 (XP), how can you select a range of cells to
be displayed as labels on a line chart that is a different
range than that used for the data source?

Is this even doable?

Hi,

click on the chart; go to menu:chart>source data>series
tab;click on the 'category axis labels' icon and select
your range to use. finish out.

You can use Rob Bovey's XY Chart Labeler to add the labels. It's a free
add-in that you can download from his web site:
