"data entry letter template"

T

tencargarage

I create a page 1 and page 2 template for my stationery. It consists
of a Header and a footer and a watermark.
When I open it as a template I can edit the header and footer. I
would like this not to edittable.

How can I create a template that will only allow text (business
letter) entry?

I tried to create a text box in the template but the document protect
greys out protect for forms.

I tried to protect the template as a form but when I try to create a
new document for the template I can't enter any text.

Ideally I would want the Head/Foot and watermark to a "layer like in
Illustrator".

Can this be done?

Thanks in advance.

I think you might be misunderstanding what a template is for and how it
is to be used.

Illy won't protect layers from anyone who can who can save the file.

Header and footer is as good a place as any to put things that want to
behave like a locked layer in Illy.

When using the template, you should open it from the gallery. That
creates a new document with the properties of the template without
disturbing the template. If I read you question correctly, that is what
you want.

But then I have had my fair share of a rather tasty Italian Cavazzola,
followed by some ok Chablis and rather fine vintage port from the
supermarket of all places.

I *like* the idea of page 1 and page 2 templates with letterhead and
follow on respectively. I have used that and some variations as my
business stationery for years. Much to the delight of my toner
suppliers and to the chagrin of local print shops.

Hi Rich:

Elliott is trying to say "Don't worry about it", and I agree with him: I
wouldn't worry about it.

However, if you must, you need to learn about section breaks. Your headers
and footers are held in the section break immediately following the place
they appear.

If you add a section break to the template, you can then protect just that
section. The following section will be fully editable, but the headers and
footers will NOT.

Use a Continuous section break, so that it doesn't throw a page break on
you.

Cheers

That's neat. I never knew about splitting the header and footer off
with a section break.

I did create a new document from the template using the gallery. The
cursor is placed at the start of where text should be placed.

However if you d click in the headers you can still select them.

I guess the sections are the solution.

Thanks again
