data entry with word

I would like to be able to update a MDB field from MS word. Can this be
done? If not can someone suggest an alternate solution?

I believe you will need to have MS Access installed to do that.

I do have Access installed. I just want to update a record while I'm doing
the reporting with Word rather than launching Access.

I'm not not aware of any method of updating an Access database without
involving/running Access.
