Data Validation List, how to create sub lists???

Right, I've used from the "Data" menu "Validation" and then selected "list"
to create a drop down list of 10 options. I want a second list next to it
that displays a list of options dependant on the option selected in the first
list. I've managed to use IF function to get 7 different lists of options,
but this is by nesting IF functions and you can only nest upto 7.
Is there another better way to do this??
