when i make a drop down list via the validation function in a NEW workbook,
it works fine. BUT when i try to add a drop down list to a workbook that i
created and have been using for a while it doesnt seem to work what can it be.

What does "it doesnt (sic) seem to work" mean?

Do you get an error when you try to apply it? Do you get the wrong
value? A crash? Nothing?

What is the source of the "older" workbooks - and what is "a while"
(e.g., is it a Word95 document?)
