If your list is in A1:A3 (for example) and A1 is empty and you do not see
the blank entry in the drop down then try this:
-make an entry in A1
-check that it appears in the drop down
-clear A1
-check the drop down and (hopefully) see that a blank entry now heads the
list in the drop down.
