"data1.msi" missing

I have upgrade my ME to XP home edition. I have not been able since to create "new messege" on internet. Small window tells me I am missing "data1.msi". I have inserted my original discs and tried to repairit to no avail. I have examined my discs very carefully for dameges, there are none I could see. I have never re-installed softwares before. If I need to do this, could I just "remove" the office 2000SR-1 from my control panel.
Please help. I am desperate
