Data1.msi

Steve Renier

When I download and attempt to install updates from the
Microsoft Office Update site, I received the prompt to
insert my Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 disk. When I do
this, however, I receive the error that it is "not a valid
installation package for the product Microsoft Office 2000
SR-1 Premium." It asks for the DATA1.MSI file.

I am using the original MS Office 2000 Professional SR-1
disk. I can navigate to the DATA1.msi file through the
Browse button but it still rejects the disk.

As I have a number of updates to install, I urgently need
to resolve this problem.

Help!

Steve, I am having the same problem with security updates for Office 2000 Pro. I get the same error message as you get. If you find out how to solve it, please let me know.

I am also inserting the original Office 2000 Pro Products disc with key codes.

Fellows, I too am having the same problem. Using
original disk as well. I too would like a heads up if you
find the answer.

Well, they say there is strength in numbers and I am suffering from the same affliction as well. Maybe if enough people post to this thread, MS will actually address this issue

Please update the thread if any of you find something out. I'm not holding my breath on a MS response

Thanks

Please keep me posted as well. It is driving me mad as it wants my disk everytime I start up my computer!

Include me! I have a similar problem. See the post entitled "Error 1706 -
related to W2k SP4" dated 11/25/03 for details."

I think I found the solution on Microsoft's website!

Go to:
Download Center
Product/Technology: Office
Keywords: Windows Installer 1.1
Select "1. Office 2000 Windows Installer Cleanuop Utility"
Download "msicuu.exe" and execute it

In the Windows Installer Cleanup folder that's created,
execute msicuu.exe

I selected Office 2000 Professional which was then
uninstalled. I then installed Office 2000 Premium. (I
don't need the Professional version.)

Everything seems to be working fine and my laptop
actually seems to boot up and run faster. This is no
surprise since bad/corrupt files frequently make a
computer run slower.

This solved my problem (unable to either update or
uninstall Office 2000 Professional). Let me know if this
works for you.

Unfortunately for those with W2K, anything SP3 or later has Windows
Installer 2.0, and this fix will not work.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I found when I
tried this.

Sorry,

Tom

Right - the instructions indicate that this utility only
works with Windows Installer 1.1 and earlier versions.
Will this solution help any of you folks?
