database image displays

mydatabase images are received in a database in the wrong size. So i use the the width and height as part of the <img to change the size of the image, but when the images are displayed I can see that they have not actually been resampled, merely resized, and they are distorted.

Is there a way to include with the width and height a resampling of the image so that it displays more cleanly. Or to tell frontpage to resample the image as it is displayed?
