Database needs to be repaired

Hi,
I have a Access 2000 application with about 20 users,
put the application (*.mdb) in the file server and created
icon for all the users pointed to the file server.
Yesterday the database was corrupted, the error message
was: "You or another user may have unexpectedly quit while
database was open" is there a way to prevent this? (I
don't want to split the database)
