database split? - NEW CONTRACT

Guys

I have started a new contract work, they have access 2000 and split there DB
into front and backend using splitter, my question is

How do you update the DB and front end same time?

They actually have 2002, however DB was still in 2000 file format, what
precautions I need to take to convert them to 2002?
