Database suddenly stops allowing updates ! For no apparent Reason.

Big mystery for me this one.

I do a lot of work with Access. In fact i usually use access to add on
functionality to other programmes which have ODBC connections.

I have a database created with linked tables to Sage (a british accounting
package) using ODBC system DSN's.

Now this all works fine and daddy. Up until a few days ago when in resposnse
to the slowing down of the system due to too many updates i made a new copy
(for the older data) and repaired and compressed the existing one.

At that point the compressed database will no longer allow updates. All the
queries have suddenly become unupdatable recordsets.

So i want back to the copy and Voila it worked. This was three weeks ago.

Unfortunately i needed to reformat the machine. So i backed up all the data.
Reinstalled the whole lot. Suddenly once again the new database (with current
additions) is unupdatable. BUT the old one which i backed up in the same way
is still allowing updates.

Strange thing is that i made no changes in access to either database.

I cannot understand how this is happening.

BTW the tables are still accepting updates. Just not the queries.
