Database Update Issues

I am new to all this and I am really enjoying it, but I am lost!!!

I used MS Article 240090 to try to learn how to use a form to update a
database. I can add items to the database, but I cannot edit them. I always
get an error like:
Database Results Wizard Error
Your page contains a query with user input parameters that could not be
resolved.
This could happen if your DatabaseRegionStart webbot has an empty or missing
s-columnnames or s-columntypes attributes.
You may need to read Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 817029.

I have tried the suggestions from 817029 and I still get the same error. I
wasted a lot of time, so now I am asking for some help!!! THANKS!

I did the quick fix which seems to help...strange.

Not sure if I am doing things correctly or not, but if I try to write a
query using (for example) '::lastname::' it says my custom query has errors.
If I change it to '%%lastname%%' then it works, but the next time I go and
look at it, it's back to '::lastname::' and won't let me complete the wizard
because it thinks there is an error. Any help?

THANKS
