Database will not open

I have a database which will not open - I get the error message databases
object not found. It worked fine yesterday & when we opened it this morning,
got this error message. i can't compact and repair either as it won't open. I
have tried to repair using the command line (database dos path &
name/repair). Without the /repair suffix the database tries to open, but with
the suffix I get a message that the object doesn't exist. I also tried to
import the database objects into an empty database, but got the same error -
databases object not found.

Any advice on how I can rectify the error or recover my data?
