Date and Time formular

I'm trying to take one date and time away from another but having a problem
fathomining it out

eg

01.04.2008 10:55:27 - 01.04.2008 9:37:13

The date and time are in the same cell eg 01.04.2008 10:55:27 is in A1

A formula for this would be great if anyone has one to hand

Well should they be formatted to anything particular I've tried that and
unfortunately it didn't work. Also it's not just A1 and B1 it goes down
numerous columns

If you want the result in hours and minutes
and if it is more than 24 hours difference
use custom format [hh]:mm
