date changes automatically

Archie

Sometimes when I open a Word file that I've completed in the past, the doc
opens wt today's date automatically inserted and I cannot recover the
original date. It is aggravating but I do not know how to stop it.

Archie, when you insert a date into a word document there is a check-box
option to "Update automatically" in the Date and Time dialog. If you what
the date to remain static make sure the Update auto box isn't selected.

For those dates that have already changed you can obtain the date the
document was created using the following steps:

- Press Alt+ F9 to toggle the view of field codes
- Locate the DATE field and modify it so it reads: CREATEDATE
- Press Alt+F9 to toggle off the view of field codes
- Place your insertion point in the date field and press F9 to update the
field.

If you are using a template to create your documents then change the DATE
field to the CREATEDATE field in the template to prevent the need to make
this correction in the future. :)
