Date Field Modification?

What if you want to modify the actual field that reperesents the slide number or the date?

For example.

The presentation automatically generates the current date, and I want to just replace it with <Date>.

 

[Echo S]

Insert | Header and Footer, tick the box for date, but don't tick the
"update automatically" box.

Similarly, Insert | Date and Time, don't tick the "update automatically"
box.
