Date format changing when merging from Access

Charlie

Hi,

I'm doing a Mail Merge from an Access query which
contains dates in the UK format. The regional settings of
the computer are set correctly and Word and Access are
displaying dates in the UK format. However, the dates
from Access mysteriously convert themselves into US
format during the merge and have so far resisted efforts
to convert them back. In previous suggestions wrt Excel
a 'switch' has been recommended. Would this work for us?
And if so, how would I go about it??

Thanks for any help you can give!
Charlie

Hi Charlie

Have had the same problem unfortunately the switch will
not work as this is a 'bug' in Word the following web
site address give me the answer though:
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/MergFram.htm

Basically you need to stop Word using OLEDB to access the
data and return to DDE or ODBC to do this go to
Tool/Opinions/General and check "Confirm conversions on
open". Then when you create a new word mail merge
document it will ask you which method of connection to
use (OLEDB, DDE, or ODBC) I use DDE.

The only issue you may have is the date reading dd/mm/yy
00:00:00. The zeros are a time format to remove them you
will need to add a switch after the merge field. Do this
by pressing Alt + F9 in the word document this will show
you the merge field code i.e black {} with the merge
field in it to convert the dog simply add \@"dd/mm/yy" to
show the date as dd mm yy if you want to put it in the
long version the switch is \@"dd MMMM yyyy" that would
show for example 01 January 2003 rather than 01/01/03.
These switches are mentioned in the word help if you can
find it.
