Date format

When I open Format - Cells - Date, I am given a list of sample date formats.
The one I want to use is not in this list.
I do not want to use custom, so how do I add to that sample list?
When I go to another PC and do the same I get a different list of sample
date formats.

Thanx in advance.....

You must use the custom list to create a new format. Just modify something
that is close to what you want, the way you want it, in the little edit
window right above the list. It will not change the original format, it will
just add what you modified to the list. This new list of formats will now
stay with that workbook, wherever it is opened. Online Help has a lot on
this.

Thanks Mike,

I knew about the 'custom' method, but that's not what I was asking.
The Date format box contains a different selection of options in every
occasion that Excel is installed.
It is different on three identical machines in my office with Excel 97 and
also at home with Excel 2003.
Each one has a different choice,
therefore I conclude that there must be some way to change the main list of
options rather than going through the 'custom' procedure.

Thanks again anyway, and if anyone can show me the way to do what I was
trying to do, I should be most grateful for the info.
