Date() function problems on network

I am having problems with the Date() function. It is working fine on my
stand-alone machine but produces an error on a network saying it is not
available as a function
I just need the current date entering automatically and have tried Now() but
this also enters the time and fails to produce the correct result

It is more likely to be the Refernce Errors.
