Date in an expression

Help! Driving myself crazy trying to write an expression
that will give me the value of a date from a table field +
seven days. I have rewitten this a thousand ways and
cannot get it to work. Any ideas?

dateadd("d",7,tablefld)

For example:
SELECT myDate+7 As NewDate FROM tblMyTable
