Date in notebook layout

I currently have the header in notebook layout set to Title & Date Created. In some of my documents set this way, I can change the date in each section to the date I want (not necessarily the date the document was originally created).

But some of the documents automatically change all the section dates back to the original date. Why does that happens and how can I make it stop?

Hi funky,

It's an automatically updating field--{CreateDate} You need to make
sure you delete the entire field if you are going to write your own date
over it.

To fix old docs, select the field, toggle field codes on the right-click
menu (or hit opt-F9), and change the DATE field to CREATEDATE. Or in
Word | Preferences | View, turn on field shading (or set Field Codes to
view), so that you know when you have deleted the entire field.

Sorry--ignore the bit about changing the DATE to CREATEDATE. You just
need to be able to see the field so that you can delete it.
