Dates Changing Automatically When Copied

M Imran Buhary

Hi,
The dates in a particular file, when copied to a new workbook automatically
changes.
e.g
original date was 02 April 2006 (37347 in general format)
When pasted to new book it becomes 1st April 2002 (but still its 37347 in
general format)
In the new book the value for 02 April 2006 is 38809

why does this happen?
If you need I can email you the file for your reference.

Hi!

The file from where the date was copied is using the optional 1904 date
system (Tools>Options>Calculation tab) and the file to where the date was
pasted is using the default 1900 date system. The difference between the two
is 1462 days.

You can either re-enter the date as 02 April 2006 or add 1462 days to 01
April 2002.

you are using 2 different date systems, the one with the 02 April 2006 is
using tools>options>calculation and 1904 date system while the one you
pasted it into uses the default 1900. You can put 1462 in an empty cell,
format it as date, copy is and select the "wrong" date and do edit>paste
special and select add.
