DB cannot open from Windows Explorer

Hi,

I cannot open any databases from Windows Explorer or the Desktop. Access
2003 loads up and runs as normal, and can open DBs via the File > Open
option, but not from a shortcut or the actual file from Explorer. Access does
not even display any sort of dialogue box. Just nothing...

I have shortcuts to a DB on a users laptop (Ethernet cable) that link to the
servers. All users in the company use this DB on both PCs and laptops without
issue except this one machine.

Any ideas???

We run XPP SP2 and Office 11 SP2 with all updates.

Thanks,
Alex

Have you checked to be sure that file associations on that PC are not messed
up?

Control Panel->Folder Options->File Types tab.

To be honest I haven't checked? Though the shortcut and actual file do
display the MS Access icon.

XP should prompt the user with the "Open With" box shouldn't it?

Having said that I will check and post the results.

Thanks,
Alex

That would be another interesting experiment.
What happens if you right-click the .mdb, then select Open With and Access
as the application?

Hi,

I have finally resolved the issue and it is a bit strange.

I had recently install IE 7 onto that machine. I also installed IE 7 onto
our terminal server and experienced the same problems (only when logged in as
a non-administrative user on both).

I uninstalled IE 7 and the issue disappeared! Shame as I wanted to roll it
out on all PCs.

Interesting, but there is no universal issue with IE7.

This is hardly an exhaustive test, but I have IE7 here on three desktops and
a laptop. I can open Access by double-clicking a .mdb on all four machines
with no problems.

Yes, I've noticed as I have it on three other PCs with no issues what so
ever. It was the only common denominator with the two setups.
