Ctrl-D is right beside Ctrl-S for saving a journal entry. Many a Save
ended up as a deletion. How can I unbind the default binding of Ctrl-
D to deletion of the journal entry?

it's not possible. If the item was edited you'll be asked to confirm
deletion, at which point you can say no.
