Decimal places in 'Duration' column

All-

When I have subtasks, properly aligned, properly entered
and referenced, I sometimes end up with decimal places on
the governing task - ie if I have a list where the main
task is 'Consumables' and the 4 subtasks each take 2 days,
consecutively, the total duration for the task will
default to 8.11 or another senseless decimal number. why
is this happening? It happens regardless of start date,
stop date or duration but does not happen on every
governing task and I can't figure out why it happens to
some and not others.

Please help!

The Duration of a summary task is calculated from the Start date of the
earliest subtask to the Finish date of the latest subtask. It is not
calculated as the sum of the Durations of all subtasks. Here's an example
of why a summary task Duration would be calculated with decimal places:

1. Task A is 5 days Duration
2. Task B is 5 days Duration
3. The dependency between Tasks A and B is Start-to-Start with 50% lag
4. Tasks A and B are both subtasks of the Phase I summary task

In the above scenario, the Duration of the Phase I summary task would be
calculated as 7.5 days, not 10 days. Again, the Duration would be
calculated from the Start date of Task A to the Finish date of Task B, a
span of 7.5 working days, excluding weekends. Hope this helps.

Examine the start and end time of the subtasks, also the start and end time
of the summary task,.
