Decision on how to protect PPT presentation against modification

I currently use PPT97 and I am trying to protect presentations against
modification. I don't mind the recipient to make print copies.

The PPS-route is a joke, but I understand that PPT2003 has a real password
protection.

How strong is the encryption? Is it worth getting PPT2003 for this feature
or is it quite easy to work around?
I know there are some password cracking programs that can open almost
anything.

The question really is: does one have to be a really determined expert to
crack it or can the average user do it too?

How safe are the alternatives "Thinstall" or "QPresenter"?
