Default at Start Up is Messed Up

I am using Word 2003. When I start up Word it shows a new blank document at
55% and the first line right at the very top edge of the page even though
the Page Setup has a 1" margin (as viewed in Print Layout). Also it shows
the paper size to be 7" wide by 9" tall. I renamed my normal.dot file to
something else, restarted Word and it's still messed up. Any idea how I can
get Word back to its installed defaults and eliminate this problem? Thanks.

In addition my cursor when in Word is tiny almost half the height of the
fonts used.

Stefan,

That fixed it, thanks so much for your help with this. I was afraid I might
need to reinstall Word. I really appreciate your help with this.

You are welcome. Note also that reinstalling usually *doesn't* help in
these situations, since it won't delete the relevant registry keys.

It probably wouldn't have helped,

Actually, any change in zoom "fixes" the problem--even going from 100 to
101% (no need to go back to 100%). Mercifully, I've yet to run into this
problem in Word 2007.

True. However, assuming that the OP is happy with the current zoom
level, "going back" makes sense... :)

FWIW, I've seen it on a few occasions, most often, it seems, in
text lines that have direct formatting.

Correction: I mean I have seen it in Word 2003. I haven't got Word
2007 yet, so I don't know about that version.

Yep. I saw it frequently in Word 2003 in Windows XP. I'm not sure I've seen
Word 2003 do that in Vista, though (I have Word 2003 and 2007 both running
in Vista).

Interesting. I never would have guessed that this could be specific to
the operating system (assuming that you are correct).
