Default Cube Failure

RISHI SHARMA

Hi,

When i install Project 2003, the Default Cube works
properly after configuration.

But when i migrate the database of Project 2002 to the new
server, then it doesn't refreshes the data in the CUBE
tables of the projectserver database of Project 2003
(Though it refreshes the CUBE table before the migration).

Actually, in my Project 2002, the Cube tables were not
getting refreshed that's why i am migrating to Project
2003 but i am facing the same problem after migrating the
database of 2002 to 2003.

Any idea why this problem is still there??

My Email id is (e-mail address removed)

Many thanks in advance....

If your problem is related to the state of the database itself, such as data
corruption, then migrating the database simply migrates the problem as well.

Hi Gary,

You are right. But i need some work around for this
problem.
Actually problem started when the default cube was
extended using breakout.dll (available at Microsoft site).
Our EXTENDED default cube worked fine for 15-20 days but
then it started failing.

Then after 2 months, the VIEWS services are also getting
failed.

Since, we are migrating the data from 2002 to 2003, so we
want that the default cube should work properly in 2003.

Is there any solution/workaround for this problem?
Is there any way by which we can rectify the corrupt data
in the database?

Many thanks,

Thanks Gary,

I have two queries,Can you please explain:

1. Which files are you talking about (Exporting the data
to text/excel files)? As you have told that everything can
be saved to files. What exactly are you talking about?

2. After restoring the data from these files in the
database, will the Default Cube work properly?

Please advise....

Many thanks...

From your posts you've established that cube building works on your system,
but doesn't work with your migrated database. This leads me to the
conclusion that your problem is data corruption and that a clean database
will solve your problem. Note this is my assumption and not a guarantee.
Will Santa be good to you this year?

Almost everything in your Project Server database can be saved to a file.
Projects as mpp file, resource pool as an mpp file, Enterprise Global as an
mpp file, but not your Project Web Access views.

Thanks Gary,

One more query for you:

I will save all the possible things in files (.mpp) in
Project 2002.
Now i have to import this data in the Project 2003 (As i
have told earlier that i am planning to migrate to Project
2003 from Project 2002).

Can we say that after saving (Importing) these files of
2002 in 2003, the database will accept it properly?

New tables and columns in old tables have been introduced
in the database of Project 2003 (Which were not in Project
2002).

Will all the new tables and columns get proper data after
saving a 2002 Project file in Project 2003?

I have checked this functionality after saving resource
pool and saving a small project in XML format and then i
have imported in Project 2003. The default cube is working
properly. But i am still doubtfull about the database
table and columns. This is because when we restore the
database in Project 2003 server then we have to run a
script UPGDB.SQL which does some synchronization in the
database (As i know from MS Help). But in this case we are
just saving a 2002 format file in 2003 and we are not
running any script.

Does this process (saving/importing) a Project 2002 mpp
file in Project 2003 machine, take care of all the
synchronization?

Please clear my doubts as i have to do this process for
than 400 projects which are in Project 2002 server.

Thanks once again....

When you use the import project or import resources to Enterprise feature,
all the columns are mapped correctly. You can even import projects that were
originally created in 2000.

HI Gary,

When i am importing 2002 projects (saved as XML or .MPP)
in 2003, then it is getting imported properly.

But the Actual Work is not as same as it was in Project
2002. There is some discripancy in the Actual Work filled
in by resources. e.g.

In Project 2002-->
if a resource has filled 200 hrs (Actual work)
I am saving a copy of the project

In Project 2003-->
I am importing the same project here
Now the actual work for that resource is around 160 Hrs.

I have checked this in the default Cube of new server
(2003) with the data in the time sheet of the 2002 Server.

Am i doing any mistake? Or is it because of something else?

Please reply.....

MANY MANY THANKS GARY..... For being there....

I can't say without seeing the projects. There's usually an explanation for
these things. Make sure that you're using Project Server 2003 and Project
Pro 2003 with SP1. From our testing, the SP1 version of 2003 is the most
stable of the bunch.

Thanks GARY!!!

I have applied SP 1 of Project 2003 and have tested the
data on both machines (MPP in Project 2002 and Project
2003 with SP1).

If i see the actual work of a resource for a specific
project in Resource Usage sheet then it is matching.

Thanks for helping me out.

But i am having one more problem.

The projects have been imported in Project 2003.
It is not showing data in MSP_WEB_WORK table. There are
some assignments missing in MSP_WEB_WORK table of Project
2003.

I am calculating the actual work of a resource of an
assignment, in a custom report, and it is showing me some
discripancy in the data.

Can you please help me in this regard?

Is there some problem in data in MSP_WEB_WORK table with
an imported (Restoring a 2002 MPP file in Project 2003)
project?

Please suggest me some solution for this.

Regards,
RISHI SHARMA
